MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to all Ethiopians and non-Ethiopians who have a minimum of a
first degree in Agricultural Economics or other related field and working in the area
of agriculture or rural development. Members shall subscribe to the objectives of the society.

A person, having attained the age of 18, who subscribes to the objectives of the
Society and who fulfills the requirements set forth in these Articles of the Society
shall become a member thereof upon filing the necessary application to this effect to
the Executive Committee.

Classes of membership. There shall be five types of membership: full membership,
student membership, associate membership, institutional membership and honorary
membership.

Full Membership

A . Membership is open to all who have a minimum of first degree in Agricultural
Economics or other related field and who subscribe to the objectives of the Society.

B. Members shall pay a registration fee of Birr 150.00 (five hundred) and an annual
membership fee of Birr 300.00 (three hundred).

Student Membership

Membership is open to registered students of Agricultural Economics or other related
field in a college/university and who subscribe to the objectives of the Society.

Student members shall pay a registration fee of Bir 100.00 and annual membership
fee of Birr 100.00 (three hundred) and will be full members upon graduation. When
becoming full member, they are required to fulfill the payment requirement stated
under IV.Ib.

Associate Membership

Associate membership is open to all who have a minimum of a first degree and
subscribe to the objectives of the Society.

Associate members shall pay a registration fee of 100 birr and annual membership fee
of 200 birr.

Institutional Membership

Institutional membership is open to all institutions within and outside the country that
subscribe to the objectives of the Society.

Institutional members shall pay a registration fee of Birr 1,000 (One thousand) and an
annual membership fee of Birr 4000 (One thousand) or the equivalent in convertible
foreign exchange at the current exchange rate.

Institutional members shall not have the right to elect or be elected to the offices of
the Society but they can participate in other activities of the society.

Honorary Membership

Honorary membership is bestowed by the Society on individuals who have made
distinguished contributions to promoting the objectives of the Society.

Honorary members are not obliged to pay any fees.

Rights and Duties of Members

Rights of Members

Full members

 All full members of the Society shall have equal rights in matters that
pertain to the Society.


Full members shall have the right to take part and vote in the General
Assembly of the Society, to elect and be elected to its offices, to receive information on its activities provided, however, that only
Ethiopians by nationality and foreigners of Ethiopian origin might be
elected as officers of the Society.

 

Membership is personal to the individual or the institution concerned
and as such is not subject to transfer or assignment to third parties.

A full member is entitled to purchase a single copy of each of the
publications of the Society at a reduced price.

Student members

Student members have the right to participate in the activities of
the Society but not to elect or be elected to the offices of the
Society.

Student members have the right to purchase a single copy of each
publication of the Society at a reduced price.

Associate Members

Associate members have the right to participate in the activities of the
Association but not to elect or be elected to the Offices of the Society.

Associate members have the right to purchase a single copy of each
publication of the Society at a reduced price.

Institutional Members

Institutional members have the right, through their designated
representatives, to participate in the activities of the Society but not to
elect or be elected to the offices of the Society.


Institutional members have the right to purchase a single copy of each
publication of the Society at a reduced price.


Institutional members shall also co-organize conferences in areas of
interest to the Society and the Institution.

Honorary Members

Honorary members have the right to participate in the activities of the
Society. They may elect and be elected to the offices of the Society

Honorary members have the right to receive a copy of each of all
publications of the Society free of charge.

Duties of Members

Every member of the Society shall pay the required membership
contribution in accordance with the provisions of these Articles of Society.

A member shall have the duty to respect the objectives of the Society and
to abide by any and all decisions made in accordance with the provisions
of these Articles of the Society.

A member who fails to pay the required membership fees and/or who fails
to render the services expected of him to the Society may not avail himself
of the rights set forth hereof.

A member who relinquishes membership of his own free will be liable to

pay all arrears relating to his membership fees.

Full members are bound to attend all meetings of the General Assembly.

Re-registration is generally not allowed. However, if members
discontinued their membership for reasons beyond their control, and in
such cases, the application is found acceptable to the Executive

Committee, re-registration shall be authorized after paying the re-
registration fee and the normal annual fee. Second times re-registration is

not possible.
